Elwin Nabors of Blanchard, Oklahoma, was in shock when he received the call that he is the most recent winner of The TFCU Great Auto Loan Payoff. “Oh my goodness, are you serious?” said Elwin about the $3,577 loan payoff.
Elwin had just made his final loan payment on his 2016 Ford Edge when he received the call that he won. “I was surprised because I had just paid the loan off.” Elwin’s name had been drawn as the sweepstake’s winner before he paid off the loan, making him still eligible to win. “It was a nice surprise for sure!” said Elwin.
When he received the call, Elwin was waiting for hints that it was a scam. “We get calls like that all the time, so we try to be very careful,” said Elwin. “I was skeptical until the day of the celebration.”
The Nabors met with TFCU employees for their winner’s celebration at the Norman Southeast branch.
“Our son is a security guard at a business nearby, so he stopped by the branch before we got here to make sure it was legit,” said Elwin. “Once he saw the balloons, he called us to say that, yep, it’s for real!”
The Nabors plan to put part of their winnings in their savings account and do a little shopping as well. “We’re going to buy me a nice purse!” Elwin’s wife, Lois, said, beaming.
