Meet ‘College Cash’ winner: Ashten Johnson from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma

Working on her elementary education degree at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, Ashten Johnson just won TFCU’s $5,000 “College Cash” contest.

When she received the call that she won, “I was in shock,” Ashten said. “I called my grandparents, my aunt and my boyfriend.”

Ashten plans to pay off her credit card that she used to charge her books for school. She also wants to get more professional clothes for the teaching observations she does three times a week.

As a former cheerleader, Ashten volunteers as a fourth-grade cheer coach. She enjoys building relationships with kids, which led her to her interest in elementary education. “It’s fun being a coach,” said Ashten. “I’ve done it for three years now.”

Ashten’s also a fan of TFCU. She’s been a member since she was 16, when she opened a savings account with her grandma. In turn, Ashten recently opened a SaveAbles Kids Club account for her 2-year-old nephew.

The Tuttle, OK resident is on track to graduate in May 2025. She looks forward to not stressing about turning in papers and wants to grade them instead.
