According to the Federal Trade Commission, consumers reported losing more than $5.8 billion to fraud in 2021. October is National Cyber Security Awareness month, which makes it a great time to review how to keep your accounts and money safe. Here are a few steps you can take to prevent fraud from happening to you:
- Utilize Online and Mobile Banking – Using online and mobile banking, you can check your account’s transactions regularly. Monitoring your account is the best way to discover unauthorized or suspicious activity.
- Sign Up for Visa Purchase Alerts – With Visa Purchase Alerts, you can receive a text message or email shortly after your TFCU MoneyPlus card or credit card has been used. So, if there is fraudulent activity, you’ll be notified and can act quickly to stop the situation.
- Spot a Scam – If you receive a phone call or text message claiming to be from TFCU, you should NOT share any of the following:
- TFCU Account Number.
- Full TFCU credit card or MoneyPlus™ Visa check card number.
- Full Social Security Number.
- Online and Mobile Banking Security Question Answers.
- Online and Mobile Banking Username and Password.
If you receive a request from a number claiming to be TFCU that says your Visa is locked and instructs you to call the number listed, do not call. Please be aware that multiple 800 numbers have been identified with this type of fraud. If you respond and provide any identifying information, the fraudster may get access to your account.
- Take Action – If you are unsure about the legitimacy of a text, email or call, please contact the TFCU Member Service Center at (405) 732-0324, option 6, to confirm. If you believe you have unauthorized transactions and would like to cancel your debit card and get a new one, please contact 405-319-2255 or visit your closest branch.
